Old Computers & Network

Computers & Network - when margins are so low, price monitoring is a must

is fortunate to work with some of the most innovative players in the market (mostly US companies) who are managing to prosper in such a competitive market. With some of these clients, we have witnessed their growth from their very first days, which makes us really proud.

Roughly speaking, our clients from these industries can be divided into following categories

  • Computers and laptops
  • Peripheral equipment
  • Servers and server equipment
  • Network equipment

Price2Spy is equipped to easily handle large product catalogs, which is essential for optimizing the pricing and assortment of a wide range of products.

Get into the depths of your competitive landscape by many different segments (e.g. brands,  categories, suppliers). Easily drill down to the product details at any time:

Furthermore – though most of our clients deal only with new hardware (which is not really a challenge for price monitoring), others offer both new, used and refurbished variations of the same product – and that is actually the main price monitoring challenge in this industry: we need to make sure we never compare a used product to a new one.

This industry has standardized part numbers, meaning that Automatch is usually possible (some of our Dutch clients keep Automatching more than 60 competitor sites). However, it’s not a must – other clients, much smaller in size (monitoring no more than 500 SKUs) are going for manual product matching. As always, Price2Spy offers flexible solutions, which can be tailor-made for each new client.

Price2Spy will enable you to easily identify your competitors’ pricing policies (which probably differ from one brand to another, from one product category to another), and react to important price change alerts (for example, when a competitor lowers the price below a certain threshold). In case MAP-enforcement is needed, Price2Spy will indicate the MAP-pricing violations.

Best price monitoring practices

Here is how Price2Spy can help product managers from this industry

  • The number of competitors can really vary (starting from 5, all the way up to 60) – this heavily depends on the market situation;
  • Most market players have their Amazon / Ebay stores, often selling under very different (cheaper!) prices compared to their regular stores. Therefore, marketplaces like Amazon and Ebay typically need to be monitored as well (usually for the cheapest price offered). In some cases several key sellers on Amazon are monitored individually;
  • Number of individual products (SKUs) monitored varies from 500 (suitable for manual product matching) – all the way up to 25 000 (matched by the Automatch process);
  • Price tracking of new / used / refurbished products. Products, depending on their condition need to be tracked separately. Automatch in such cases can be tricky, but we did master it on several occasions;
  • Price change alerts are usually used only for key product categories (other products get covered by Automated Price matrix report – preferably showing only the products with price changes within last 24 hrs);
  • Use Pricing Strategy module to identify products with pricing opportunities – it will result in a clear and interactive list of products and suggested pricing changes;
  • Most recent price changes, as well as stock movements (per brand or category) can be spotted via Pricing Dashboard; the same goes for the share of cheapest products per site;
  • MAP (minimal advertised price) violation module is heavily used in order to spot competitors who are playing against the rules.

We monitor BestBuy. As well as many other sites.
